Get to know Menjangan Island

Menjangan lies off Bali's northwest coast inside West Bali National Park, a protected area of about 190 km² that includes both land and sea, established in 1941. The park's waters hold more than 110 species of coral, and Menjangan is known for clear water and reef walls that drop away from the island, with reef fish and sea turtles. On land you may meet the wild deer the island is named after.

How a Menjangan Island Snorkeling day works

Tap a stop to see it. Every stop is flexible: add, skip or swap on the day.

  1. We pick you up and drive you to Labuhan Lalang, the harbour for Menjangan inside West Bali National Park. Tell us where you are staying and we plan the pick-up time with you.

  2. At Labuhan Lalang you get your national park entrance ticket and meet the official park guide who goes with you to the island.

  3. A short boat ride of around 30 minutes across to the island.

  4. Your park guide takes you to snorkeling spots around the island, chosen for the day's sea conditions.

  5. See the wild deer and the island's temples, which Hindu pilgrims visit.

  6. Boat back to the harbour, then your driver takes you back to your hotel or villa, with any stops you like on the way.

Good to know before you go

  • Menjangan Island is inside a national park: a park entrance ticket and an official park guide are required to visit.
  • Park ticket prices follow Indonesian government regulation PP 36/2024 (in force since 30 October 2024) and are paid on top of the day rate, unless you ask us for an all-in price.
  • Boats cross from Labuhan Lalang harbour; the ride usually takes around 30 minutes.
  • Go early: mornings usually have calmer water before the afternoon wind.
  • Menjangan means “deer” in Indonesian and Balinese. Wild deer live on the island, and Hindu temples on the island are visited by pilgrims, so dress and behave respectfully there.
  • Our home base is Mendoyo in Jembrana, West Bali, so this is our side of the island.
